Festivals
A number of festivals and events take place throughout the year in Torrevieja. Some of
them have become truly international attracting tourists from all over the world.

A religious festival called Our Lady of Carmel takes place July, when
local fishermen and sailors celebrate the feast of their patron saint. The image of the Virgin
is carried to the port and placed on a boat, which sails along the coast until sunset.

Another popular festival in Torrevieja is the Carnival in February, when the city's streets
are filled with colour and music and the Carnival Queen is proclaimed in the most spectacular event on the programme.

International Habaneras and Polyphony Festival
has taken place every July since 1955 and is now the most important in Spain, with choirs from all over the world attending.
