The name Torrevieja derives from a defensive tower built here in the
15th century to protect the coast Barbary Coast pirate raids. Cape
Cervera Tower and La Mata Tower - a landmark which is found on the north
side of the town overlooking the sea.

Plaza Waldo Caleroocated is located near the port this is the most popular
square with bubbling fountain and stone benches
finished in blue and white ceramic -
reminiscent of the famous Gaudi style.

This spectacular mordern parish church of the Sacret Heart of Jesus was inaugurated in 2009 and is a centre-piece of the new public square, the Plaza de Oriente. |

Plaza de la Constitucio is one of the town's most important squares,
houses both the Town Hall and Church de La Inmaculada Concepcion. The
benches and walls, restored to the original design, are adorned with
characteristic ochre-coloured tiles.
